Texas Sheet Cake

It's only Tuesday and already I feel so tired. Personally I think it's sitting at home all day. Staring at a computer and watching daytime TV can only keep a girl sane for so long.
I need something else to fill my days with.
Something cheap, and by cheap I mean costing nothing.
Maybe I'll finally use the cute bits in my craft box I have been building up.
Maybe I'll get through the 11 books that I have waiting to be read.
Maybe I'll discover a new favourite recipe.
Who knows?

What I do know is that I have the wonderful Amanda from Dragonflight Dreams to introduce to you today.
Take it away girl!

Amanda is the creative force behind the Dragonflight Dreams blog and shop.

Hi Eat Enjoy Live readers! Today, Helen is letting me share with you one of my favorite desserts - Texas Sheet Cake! This is a dish I fell in love with long before I moved to Texas. My aunt (who has always lived in Michigan, go figure) makes this for any big family gatherings, and it is delicious. This is her recipe. I hope you enjoy! :)

Texas Sheet Cake

  For the Cake
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 large cookie sheet with a rim/raised edges, greased
For the Frosting
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 6 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

  • Optional: sprinkles, nuts, or other small scatter-able toppings as desired

  1. For the cake, boil the butter, cocoa and water together until smooth.
  2. Mix in the rest of the cake ingredients, and pour into greased sheet pan.
  3. Bake at 375F for 20-25 minutes.
  4. For the frosting, combine and boil the butter, cocoa, milk and vanilla.
  5. Add the powdered sugar and blend well.
  6. Pour and spread over the cake while it is still hot.
  7. Sprinkle with toppings, if desired.
  8. Let cool, and enjoy!
Thanks Amanda! That looks so good.
Go over and say Hi to Amanda now.

I definitely need to try this! Though I might go with store bought frosting - my frosting hardly ever turns out, no matter what recipe I use!
