30 days of books

Oops! How long is it since I did a 30 days of books post? Well I can tell you.....42 days! My bad people.

Here you go though. I'm officially all caught up on the literature front.

Favourite male character

Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights = absolute classic!

Favourite female character

Sugar from Crimson Petal and the white. She's independent but fragile and naive, all the makings of a good lead female.

Favourite quote from your favourite book

I didn't list this as my favourite book, and I'm actually quite shocked by that. Those who know me, know my opinion is that Wuthering Heights is one of the best books ever written. To give you a bit of background, Cathy (the speaker) is marrying Linton (he's rich), but she loves Heathcliff (he's poor). She has grown up with Heathcliff all her life, and although he's of a lower class, they  are each other.  Here's my quote:

" I cannot express it; but surely you and everybody have a notion that there is, or should be an existence of yours beyond you. What were the use of creation if I were entirely contained here? My great miseries in this world have been Heathcliff's miseries, and I watched and felt each from the beginning; my great thought in living is himself. If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be; and all else remained, and he were annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger; I should not seem a part of it. My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods. Time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees — my love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath — a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Heathcliff — he's always, always in my mind — not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself — but as my own being  so, don't talk of our separation again — it is impracticable. "

To me this quote just sums up true love.

Favourite book turned into a movie

None. I'm not saying books turned into movies are no good. I just always have a different picture of how things would have happened and get annoyed when it doesn't go that way.

Favourite romance book

Wuthering Heights, repeating myself here! Technically its Gothic literature, but I see the romance in it.

Favourite book from your childhood

The tiger who came to tea. If you have young children, get this book and read it too them. I can promise you they will love it. Actually it being performed at my local theatre and I am so tempted to go!

Favourite book you own

Oooooo difficult one. No comment! :P

A book that you wish more people would've read

The bible.

Favourite title

The book of lost things. I mean who wouldn't be drawn into that title?

Your favourite book of all time

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Relevant than and still relevant now.

As you can tell I'm a classics girl. I urge you if you haven't read them to give them a go.

Which of these are you going to try?

I haven't done this in a while too...I'll get to it soon! I loved Wuthering Heights (I even enjoyed Nicola Thorne's Return to Wuthering Heights). I've been meaning to read the Bible but I haven't bought a copy that I can highlight and make notes on yet...Must do this!
